Picking
Picking
Picking directly impacts the speed and accuracy of order fulfillment. If done incorrectly (e.g., product or quantity mix-ups), it can cause shipment delays, returns, or customer dissatisfaction. Therefore, a properly and efficiently set up picking process is key to a well-functioning warehouse and a high level of customer service.
How does picking work in practice?
- Order receipt
The Simon logistics system receives the order and generates a so-called pick list for the warehouse worker — a list of products to be picked. - Warehouse picker navigation
The picker is guided by the system to specific warehouse locations where the requested products are stored. - Physical picking of goods
The goods are physically taken from the storage location into a transport box or transport pallet. This step requires scanning the correct EAN code in the requested quantity. - Transfer to packing zone
After all items in the order are picked, the goods are moved to the packing zone.
We process hundreds to thousands of orders daily, so it is very important that the picking process is fast, efficient, and automated. Because picking makes up one of the largest parts of warehouse operations, it must be managed by an advanced warehouse system. That’s where Simon helps — optimizing picker routes, reducing errors, and speeding up the entire process.
Why is there a price difference between picking individual units and picking transport packaging?
The difference in price is due to the differing complexity of the warehouse worker’s task.
When does my order reach the worker who picks the goods?
All orders are accepted by the system chronologically, so they are processed in the order they are received. If a client wants their order prioritized, it can be set as a priority in the system. All orders received by 12:00 noon are shipped the same day.
What if the warehouse worker picks the wrong goods?
In this case, nothing happens because the goods are validated a second time during packing, and the error will be corrected internally.
