Receipt of goods
Receipt of goods
Goods receipt is a key logistics process that involves the physical acceptance, inspection, and recording of goods delivered from suppliers or manufacturers to the warehouse. The goal of this process is to ensure that the received goods correspond to the delivery note in terms of quantity, quality, and correct labeling.
How does the process usually proceed?
- Unloading goods from the vehicle into the warehouse
- Checking the integrity of goods and packaging as a whole
- Completing transport documents
- Scanning the shipment tracking number and linking it to the delivery note
- Labeling the shipment with the delivery note
- Changing the status in the information system from “created” to “moved”
- Moving the goods to the storage area for stocking
The delivery note is an internal document used in logistics and warehouse management to record goods received into the warehouse. The client creates the delivery note before the goods arrive at the warehouse. By creating the delivery note, the client notifies us to expect the receipt of goods and provides information about the type and quantity of goods.
What does the delivery note contain?
The delivery note typically includes the client’s identification, expected receipt date, delivery note number (internal reference number), supplier or origin of goods, description of goods (name, quantity, etc.), and shipment tracking.
What is the purpose of the delivery note?
The delivery note confirms that the goods have been physically received into the warehouse, enables proper recording in the warehouse system, and allows checking for discrepancies between the order and delivered goods.
Who creates the delivery note and when?
The delivery note is created by the client before the goods arrive at our warehouse.
What happens if I don’t create a delivery note?
The warehouse worker will inform the client that the goods have arrived. Without a delivery note, it is not possible to start the stocking process. In exceptional cases, the delivery note can be created by the warehouse staff.
What if the goods arrive damaged?
If goods are received with reservations from the carrier, our warehouse worker will document the damage with photos and forward the documentation to the client along with the scanned CMR.
How do I know that the goods have arrived at the warehouse?
The client is notified of the goods’ arrival when the status in the system (under the receipts section) changes from “created” to “moved.” At this point, the goods are labeled with the delivery note and ready for stocking. The client can also check the shipment tracking and verify if the status shows “delivered”.
